Lymington Third XI have won Hants County League South West Division Four. They cruised to a 9 wicket win over Alderholt II at Woodside in their final match with Damian Jayasinghe scoring a half century. Captain Lee Moors was rightly proud of his team who lost just once all season and deservedly clinched the title.

Just Champion! - Captain Lee Moors cracks open the Champagne
The Firsts and Seconds couldn't end the season on a high note, falling to heavy defeats against South Wilts (match report) and Langley Manor respectively. Despite this, there was plenty of merriment at the end of season bash. Click here to see the photos...
The final winners are
Chrissie Douglas £100
Martina Humber £50
David Coles £25

The Lymington Cricket Club Annual Presidents match sponsored by Pimms was played at the Sports Ground in glorious weather on a belter of a track. Brian Hobby was our host as two competitive sides met for the annual bragging rites. Lymington batted first and young Felix Ambrose made batting look very easy with 19 delightful runs but succumbed to the wily leg breaks of Will Hayward. In fact Lymington struggled for runs as Steve Andrew not only rolled back the years but rolled over messrs Rushbrook/Barton & Simon Cook in the space of four overs helped by a super catch at mid wicket by Scott Tapper. Fortunately Cameron Grierson 52 chose the occasion to play a sensible innings well supported by Mark O’Sullivan 24 and the final total of 213 at least made a game of it as the Presidents X1 eyed up the chance of an early victory plus plenty of Pimms. Jon Hardy 14 & Steve Andrew 14 started the chase but both fell to young Josh Thacker who also took out Peter Tapper after playing his only two cover drives of the season. However our newest Life Member Neil Trestrail rose to the situation and merrily blasted 44 and along with Gavin Bailiff from Bashley with 29 hoisted the score towards the target. Martin Hunt played a little cameo of 34 and finished the game with a minnow six into the gallery as the Presidents X1 sneaked home by one wicket.
The match came on the back of an excellent week for Lymington with not only the 1st X1 winning the SEPL 20/20 but our 3rd X1 captained by Lee Moors have secured promotion from Regional 4 South West.

Winners
Lymington have won the Southern Electric Twenty20 cup. They beat old rivals Ventnor by 17 runs under the Rose Bowl floodlights with 17 year old Tommy Barton named man of the match for his brutal 35 which helped accelerate Lymington towards an imposing 176-5. Cookie again did the business, taking three wickets for just 14 runs as Ventnor ended well short. Match report and photo

Lymington were well beaten by champions-elect Havant in their penultimate home game. Chasing the visitors' sizeable 257-8, Lymo collapsed from 65-1 to 70-6 and were eventually dismissed for just 147. The Second XI returned to winning ways with a 5 wicket win at Purbrook with Jamie Harvey grabbing 5 wickets. Lee Moors' Third XI remain top of their division with just two to play after a 3 wicket win at Burley. The home side totaled 188 before Tim Beer's half century set Lymo on their way to victory. On Sunday at the Sports Ground Bashley cruised to a 6 wicket victory in the annual Dale Middleton Memorial match.
Captain Christian Pain reports no new injuries ahead of his side's massive Twenty20 final at the Rose Bowl on Wednesday (7pm). Key bowler Simon Cook has recovered from the knee injury that prevented him from bowling in the semi-final win over Portsmouth, so apart from Bryn Darbyshire who suffered serious facial injuries during that match, Lymington have a full squad to pick from.
Lymington will be backed by a large traveling contingent, and with opponents Ventnor reportedly bringing 200 supporters across The Solent, it should be a noisy night out at the Rose Bowl. Minibuses will be leaving the Sports Ground at 5pm, a few spaces may still be available - ring Trevor on 07812 699650 for more details. A special souvenir programme is being produced for the match. The publication will include articles on some of the tastier previous Lymington v Ventnor encounters plus pen pictures of both teams and a run down on how the sides reached the final. It can be bought on the night at the Rose Bowl for just £1 with all proceeds going to Bowel Cancel Uk, one of the late Terry Trodd's favoured charities.
Remember, remember, whatever you do,
if you're going to the Rose Bowl wear yellow and blue! |

Lymington's poor run of form in the SPL continued with a 6 wicket defeat at Bournemouth, match report
The Seconds fared little better, going down to a 4 wicket defeat against Flamingos at the Sports Ground despite 65 from Tom Thorp. Better news at Woodside where Scotty Tapper hit a sparkling 125 and Luigi Di Maria took 7-24 including a hat-trick as the Third XI routed Centurians by 212 runs. match report
Sadly, the match at the Sports Ground saw Mark Jackson probably play his last innings for the club after being posted to Holland for three years as part of a NATO attachment. The prolific left handed opening batsman made his debut for Lymington in 1983 and has since scored thousands of runs for the First, Second and Third XIs. His dogged determination and incredible powers of concentration saved the Second XI on numerous occasions over the years, and he topped the batting averages year after year. It was no co-incidence that when Jacko was posted to Afghanistan last summer, the team's fortunes nosedived resulting in relegation.

Jacko receives a guard of honour
Jacko's highest score for Lymington was 126 against Leckford in 2001. He was the first batsman to score a century at Woodside, and in 2007 also became the very first player to register a hundred on the new electronic scoreboard at the Sports Ground. Strangely enough, it was an incident with the ball rather than the bat that provided Jacko with one of his most memorable moments. In an inter-club match he had to bowl at Peter Tapper. To wind the batsman up, Jacko put every fielder on the leg side boundary, and then danced with delight as Taps attempted a rare offside shot and was caught behind!
A loyal club member who made a two hour journey from London each weekend to play for the Second XI, Mark was fittingly given a guard of honour by his teammates as he took to the field for the last time. Jacko will be sorely missed at the Sports Ground and we wish him all the best in his new adventure in Holland. |

Lymington overcame a spirited Portsmouth side to reach their first SEC Trophy final in eight years. In front of a large Sports Ground crowd, Lymo recovered from 51 for 5 to total 135 for 7 from their 20 overs thanks principally to Morgan Rushbrook (34), Rob Lammiman (38) and Christian Pain (27no). Glyn Treagus and James Lucy then took three wickets each to help dismiss their Division Three opponents for 88. However, the victory was soured by a dreadful injury to Bryn Darbyshire who was struck in the face by a bouncer and was immediately taken to hospital for treatment on a broken nose and suspected fractured cheekbone. Everyone at Lymington CC wishes Bryn a full and speedy recovery. Match report and photos

Rob Lammiman's 38 hauled Lymington back into the match
The final on Wednesday August 19th (7pm start) sees Lymington face their old foes Ventnor under the Rose Bowl floodlights. Historically, games between the two clubs have always been highly competitive affairs, and this promises to be no different. A list will be put up in the clubhouse for those requiring transport from Lymington to the Rose Bowl for the match.
Earlier in the day a Lymington XI fell to a 5 run defeat against tourists CYPOS at Pennington with Lee Moors top scoring with 33.
All three of Lymington's league matches on Saturday were abandoned without a ball being bowled.

Lymington First XI will be hoping to get back to winning ways on Saturday when they entertain St Cross at the Sports Ground. St Cross, who last week hauled themselves off the bottom of the table thanks to a fine win over Totton & Eling, may well include Hampshire's Jimmy Adams who was one of the Friends Provident Cup heroes at Lord's last Saturday. The weather forecast isn't too clever for Saturday afternoon, so autograph hunters might have ample opportunity to obtain Jimmy's signature in the Sports Ground bar! The Seconds travel to lowly US Pompey, while Lee Moors will be hoping his Third XI can complete a Sway 'double' by defeating Sway Second XI in the same emphatic manner as they beat Sway Thirds last week.
On Sunday afternoon all eyes turn to the Sports Ground for the SE Twenty20 semi-final clash with Portsmouth. The prize for the winners is a match under the floodlights at the Rose Bowl (pictured) against either Ventnor or Andover. Both Lymo and Portsmouth will be wearing coloured clothing, and orange balls will replace the traditional red ones. There will be a barbecue and the bar will be open all afternoon. The official Portsmouth website states that at least two coachloads of supporters will be making the trip up the M27 for the match, so it promises to be a great atmosphere. Captain Christian Pain reports full availability, although any late team changes will be announced via Twitter! The match kicks off at 3pm - don't be late!

If you can't wait until 3pm for your Twenty20 fix, you could get over to Pennington Sports Ground in the morning where a Lymington XI face tourists Cypos in a hastily re-arranged friendly fixture. The match starts at 11am and will be finished in time for the players and spectators to leg it over to the Sports Ground for the semi-final.

Just nine days after Lymington's mens side lifted the NFCCA President's Cup at Langley Manor, the club's stars of the future more than emulated their seniors on the same ground by romping to a massive 57 run win over Totton & Eling in the New Forest Under 13 cup final. Report and photos...
Lymington slumped to their fifth Time Pennant defeat of the summer as they were heavily defeated by the Hampshire Academy at the Rose Bowl. Only Morgan Rushbrook (58) shone for Lymo who were dismissed for 163. Simon Cook added two more wickets to his growing list of victims, but Lymington couldn't prevent the County youngsters reaching their target for the loss of just 4 wickets in a little over 40 overs. match report
The Second XI fared little better at the Sports Ground where visitors Burridge recorded a 7 wicket win after bowling out a lacklustre Lymo for 154.
The Third XI, however, cruised to a 10 wicket win at Woodside where Sway were shot out for just 28, match report

Lymington will face Portsmouth in the semi-finals of the Southern Electric Twenty20 Cup after beating Bashley by 35 runs at the BCG. Morgan Rushbrook was once again the star, smashing an unbeaten 94 as Lymo totaled 173 for 5. Simon Cook's two early strikes ensured that Bash were always unlikely to trouble Lymington's score, and although Gavin Bailiff struck a quickfire 48, the home side ended well short on 138 for 7. The draw, made live on Radio Solent, gave Lymington a home tie with Division Three side Portsmouth on Sunday August 2nd at a time yet to be confirmed. The other half of the draw presented Andover with a tricky trip to Ventnor. The final will be played under the Rose Bowl floodlights on Wednesday August 19th.Rain interruptions effectively thwarted any Lymington hopes of an outright victory over Alton in their latest SPL time-game, although Christian Pain's men were able to claim a winning draw courtesy of a marginally superior run-rate. Simon Cook and Glyn Treagus both took four Alton wickets as the visitors scored 175 for 8 from 58 overs. Morgan Rushbrook's unbeaten 54 then enabled Lymington to reach 122 for 5 from 40 overs at stumps. The weather also scuppered the Second XI who fell to a last over defeat at Old Basing. Neil Trestrail (48) and Mark Jackson (46) helped Lymington total 203 for 5, but rain breaks reduced the home side's target to 145 from 26 overs. This they achieved for the loss of seven wickets with just three balls to spare despite three wickets from Marc O'Sullivan. The Third XI romped to a comfortable victory at Suttoners after dismissing the home side for just 88.

Lymington traveled to Andover last Saturday and almost started on two occasions. The drizzle ceased by 12pm and it looked as if it would be possible to start the match about 1230pm. This however was not to be. An early lunch was taken and it was decided to play a limited overs match before the heavy drizzle started again and play was ruled out for the day.
Lymington's SE Twenty20 Quarter Final against Bashley (Rydal) was also a victim of the weather and was called off on Sunday morning due to a waterlogged ground. This match will be played this Sunday also at Bashley. The start time is 3pm.
Lymington play Alton at home at the Sports ground this Saturday in a Time Pennant match starting at 1130am.

A sparkling 40 not out from Cameron Grierson helped Lymington clinch the Presidents Cup at a damp Langley Manor. Chasing Bashley's 93 for 8, Lymington romped to a seven wicket victory with almost 4 overs to spare. Man-of-the-match Grierson sealed the victory with a six over long on to make it seven wins out of eight for Lymo in the final of the New Forest's premier cup competition.
