With the main writer and contributor to this website otherwise occupied over the past few weeks, the lack of new articles appearing on this website has highlighted the fact that we desperately need new contributors. If you've got anything interesting to report about the club, or any other relevant cricketing matter, please send it to the webmaster Steve Scott at steve.scott@farsite.co.uk. With the new season fast approaching it is imperative that match reports for every club fixture are sent both to this website and the Lymington Times. Naturally the club reserves the right not to publish anything deemed racist, sexist etc.
Adie Hunt and Neil Trestrail both got their seasons off to a flying start with half centuries before rain cut short Lymington's first match of the season at Bashley. Lymo had reached 141 for 5 from 27 overs when the match was abandoned. Lymington's next pre-season friendly is at South Wilts on Saturday April 26th when newly arrived overseas player Craig O'Shannessy is expected to make his debut.
Lymington are pleased to annouce the arrival of Australian Craig O'Shannessy as their overseas player for 2008. Craig was recommended to the club by former Lymington favourite Tim Smith who is director of cricket at the same Sydney Cricket Club which gave us Karl Whatham and the legendary Pete Smith. Craig is predominantly a pace bowler who bats a bit, and has taken an impressive 90 wickets in the past three seasons in the ultra-competitive Sydney first grade competition. We wish Craig the best of luck in his time with Lymington Cricket Club.
Lymington's recently appointed club coach Morgan Rushbrook has begun the season in good form, taking 3 for 52 for his Cardiff UCCE side in their match against Hampshire at the Rose Bowl. Morgan grabbed the wickets of former England batsman John Crawley for 36, plus Chris Tremlett and Liam Dawson as the hosts were restricted to 249 for 8. The students were 10 for 1 in reply before rain halted play.

An impressive all round display from Christian Pain saw Lymington carry off the New Forest Indoor Knockout Trophy for the first time. They beat Fawley by two wickets in a low scoring final. With the Hunt brothers handicapped by injuries sustained in the semi-final win over Bashley, Lymington did well to restrict holders Fawley to 90 for 5. Pain removed the prolific Andy Parratt courtesy of a fine return catch, and not even a gritty innings from Steve Rice could help the Oilers post anything like a competitive total.
To their credit, Fawley battled back, dismissing Simon Naylor in the first over and soon taking two more wickets. Pain and Marty Hunt stabilised the innings, but when the latter fell in the 10th over, 27 more runs were still required. However, Pain (35 not out) and the hobbling Adie Hunt held their nerve and guided Lymo home with two balls to spare.
The cup win made up for a disappointing conclusion to the league season which saw Lymington finish in fourth place a massive 41 points behind champions New Milton. Ironically, Lymington were the only team to beat Milton all season. |
