Lymington 3rd X1-174 for 6
Southampton Travellers 67
Lymington are virtually assured of safety after an excellent all round performance at the Pennington Ground. The match was transferred from Woodside after vandalls had wrecked the pavilion. Batting first they suffered an early blow when Nick Lee was bowled but Peter Tapper 35 was batting fluently until he swatted a long hop straight down deep mid wicket throat. However John McGuirk remained unflappable and his 80 not out ensured a decent total, especially after watching three wickets go down in one over. Captain Holt provided excellent support with 33 and the final total of 174 was respectable but not out of reach.
Their reply was soon in tatters as fine bowling by young Peter Harding made inroads into their batting by taking two early wickets. Chris Noble 3-31 proved very difficult to play and with Alex Treagus 2-12 who bowled some curious deliveries the visitors were deep in trouble. A quite magnificient catch by Matt Malloy was the highlight of some capable fielding. It was left to Peter Tapper 3-4 to mop up the tail. This win captured 22 points.
Best: J McGuirk 80 not out.
