Match Report - Hants Regional Div 2SW - 10th July 2004
Woodgreen v Lymington III

Lymington 3rd X1 202-6
Woodgreen 68-10

At last, our beleagued third eleven have finally triumphed. Despite the soggy conditions, several interuptions for rain plus an awesome tea Lymington won a rain affected game by 34 runs after several reduced targets. Having to bat first in these type of conditions clearly gives an advantage to the side chasing but not in this instance. Our openers Tim Margetston 27 and Nick Lee 42 put on 73 runs in good time with Lee playing several imperious drives. The departure of Lee allowed Peter Tapper late of the 2nd X1 to merrily slog 61 including 3 sixes and 7 fours to keep the runs flowing. His exit slowed the tempo but Chris Nutt with 20 and Alex Treagus 10 made sure that 200 was exceeded.

Let them eat cake

7 for 17 in 5.3 oversAfter several rain delays the target was reduced to 101 off 21 overs and meant that one of our bowlers needed a career best to ensure victory. Enter Paul Sturmey who opened with his customary wide and proceeded to take 7 wickets for 17 runs. Easily the best figures recorded by any Lymington player this season. Good support bowling by young Chris Noble and an even younger Lloyd Scott kept both ends tied up. Whilst still in the relegation zone this was an encouraging performance and provided the strength of the team is not sapped by call ups and holidays there is every chance that they can avoid the dreaded drop.

Peter Tapper 61
Paul Sturmey 7-17.
