Match Report - Hants Regional Div 3SW - 21st August 2004
Lymington IV v Brockenhurst

Side Batting First: Brockenhurst 198 for 7
Side Batting Second: Lymington 162 all out

Lymington yet again fielded a young side and this may have been at the root of the problem in maintaining pressure during the course of the match. Although Brockenhurst were well worthy of their victory, there were small windows of opportunity that Lymington failed to capitalise on. The less said about the 44 extras – Brockenhurst's top score – the better. When Mike Williams (24) was dismissed after the drinks break by Tim Saunders (1-29), the game was in the balance and with further wickets falling to Dan Waters and Scott Tapper, Lymington's fortunes were on the up. The fickle finger of fortune then took a distinct nose-dive as Simon Naylor (43) and I Pearson (37no), after watchful starts, took full toll on anything loose, with Adam Darbyshire (4-29) the only bowler to cause problems.

Lymington were out of the blocks in a manner befitting Olympic fortnight before Steve Coltman (20) dragged one on to his stumps. When Mark Gannaway (32) was dismissed by Simon Naylor (2-41), the home sides hopes rested with Oli Northover who, with the help of two sixes into and over the Pennington pavilion, seemed to be thoroughly enjoying himself before he got too much elevation on one and was caught in the deep for 35. The rest of the batting succumbed cheaply to I Pearson (2-19) and Oli Williamson (3-18) despite a late rally from Ali Iles (11no).
