Match Report - Hants Regional Div 3SW - 22nd May 2004
Hythe & Dibden v Lymington IV by Mark Gannaway

Side Batting First: Hythe & Dibden 171 for 7
Side Batting Second: Lymington 99 all out

Having suffered the loss of their two main batsmen in the morning, all Lymington could hope for was to win the toss and restrict the home side to a small total, giving themselves a chance to chase. For a long time it looked like this most unlikely of plans was going to work. As ever, Bob Iles (3-28) and Luigi Di Maria (15 runs off 12 overs) provided both the threat of penetration and the security of economy to leave Hythe not set well at the drinks interval. The real bonus for Lymington came in the form of Scott Tapper with 3-26, as well as some sound fielding. With a run out also thrown into the equation Hythe may have feared the worse after the departure of R Bunce (35). However, the 13 overs not bowled by those aforementioned went for more than seven runs each, with D Miller (32) and M Howe (20no) frustrating the visitors.

This shift of initiative was never to be recovered by Lymington, and the loss of a wicket in the second over did not help. A second wicket partnership of 49 gave some hope before Mark Gannaway (26) was removed by I White (2-14). A mature innings from Tom Thorp (32) and middle order runs from James Hanniford (21) added a little respectability to the total, but once R Bunce (3-17) removed the latter, the fat lady was already warming up.
