Match Report - Hants Regional Div 3SW - 15th May 2004
Mudeford III v Lymington IV by Mark Gannaway

Side Batting First: Lymington 135 all out
Side Batting Second: Mudeford 136 for 4

After the frustration of a washed out game the weekend before, Lymington were foiled this time by their inability to twice take advantage of a promising situation. The first occasion arose with the bat, after winning the toss. At 103 for 3 with eleven overs remaining the home side were hopeful of a score that, given the wet conditions preceding the game, would have been worth significantly more. The dismissal of Mark Gannaway (57), however, sparked a collapse, partly due to the return of Heaton (2-19) to the attack, and partly due to four run-outs. In the end, the last seven wickets added only 32 runs, and two remaining overs went unused.

Mudeford found the going claustrophobic, and starved of the oxygen of runs by Bob Iles (19 runs off 12 overs) they were left gasping for breath against Luigi Di Maria (3-30). From a perilous looking position, worsened by an excellent throw from the deep by Ali Iles to execute another run out, Mudeford reached safer ground, primarily through an unbeaten 52 from A Bethune. In the end Mudeford won at a canter, with 5 overs remaining, and Lymington were left to rue wasted opportunities.
