Marty on the mend
Martin Hunt is on the road to recovery following the punctured lung he suffered while on his six month stay in Australia. Marty first noticed a problem while batting for his Balmain side and was rushed into hospital where he underwent an operation to reinflate the lung. Doctors believe that the illness may have been triggered by a cyst, and while Martin should make a full recovery, he has been advised not to play any more cricket until the start of the English season in May. Martin is currently convalescing in Sydney and is due to spend Christmas with the larger-than-life ex-Lymington legend Tim Smith. Let's hope there's enough turkey to go round!

Our Under 11 colts Adam Welch and Sam Moss were included in the recent New Forest assessment trials held at Mountbatten School in Romsey. Both did well and are looking to be included for squad training later on and a tour to Jersey in the Summer. Good luck to them.

We are still looking for a Manager of the Under 11A team. If one is not forthcoming then the club will be only able to run 1 Under 11 team in the summer. One parent has shown some interest and hopefully in conjunction with another parent be able to run the side (fingers crossed).

Merry Christmas to everyone

Ex-Lymingtonian helps to sink Pakistan!

Former Lymington player Aaron Heal was part of the Western Australia 2nd XI team which pulled off a shock win yesterday over a near-full strength Pakistan side in Perth. The tourists were using the match as a warm-up before the forthcoming Test against the Australians at the Waca, but they came away from the Jones Oval with an embarrassing 10 run defeat.

Set just 94 for victory, the Pakistanis - who included the likes of Abdul Razzaq, Shahid Afridi, Yousuf Youhana, Danish Kaneria and Shoaib Akhtar - were skittled out for just 83. Left arm spinner Aaron failed to take a wicket in the match, but scored 14 in WA's first innings and then added a valuable 20 runs in the second before becoming one of Kaneria's seven victims.

Another former local player also had a hand in the victory. Ex-Bashley star Luke Ronchi smashed 66 in just 49 balls in the WA first innings.

So now perhaps Aaron can finally settle the age-old argument over who's the quickest: Shoaib Akhtar or Shoaib Sanger?

Tappy Christmas Wharts is Over! Join us for the Lymington CC Christmas Pub Crawl . . .

Sadly there's no Christmas Party this year, but we will be undertaking a Lymington CC Christmas Pub Crawl on Saturday 18th December. Departing from the Kings Head on Quay Hill at 8.00pm, we will be calling at all drinking stations along the High Street before terminating at the Purbani Curry House in St Thomas Street sometime near closing. Anyone is welcome to join us - although you should be warned that it's Meg Gannaway's birthday that day so he may be even louder and more annoying than normal (if that's possible!)

I'm an English cricketer get me out of here!
Martin Hunt's Australian adventure suffered a setback at the weekend when he was taken to hospital with a collapsed lung. The injury occurred during Balmain's current Third Grade match against Eastern Suburbs. Marty was batting at the time and going well on 32 when he suddenly felt ill while running between the wickets. Surgeons were hoping to operate sometime this week to reinflate the lung. We wish Martin a speedy recovery.

Meanwhile Karl Whatham's incredible run of form continues. He followed up his career-best 134 against St George three weeks ago with another First Grade half century last week against North Sydney. This weekend the ex-Lymington all-rounder recorded scores of 69 and 86 in Balmain's match against Eastern Suburbs at the Drummoyne Oval. This took Karl's First Grade aggregate to nearly 450 runs from just 7 innings.

So, can we at Lymington take any credit for Karl's amazing deluge of runs? Did facing Pickle Bennett in the nets prepare Karl for the intensity of top class First Grade bowling? Or did batting with Meg Gannaway teach Karl the finer points of leg-side slogging? Perhaps it was the donner kebabs. Whatever the reason, it's clear that Karl's summer on the South Coast has certainly improved his game. No wonder so many Aussies are queuing up to come and play in the Old Country.

Newboy Nails Godshill
Simon Naylor marked his club debut with an unbeaten 30 as his new side swept aside Godshill in their first match of the 2004/05 indoor season at Lymington Sports Centre. Chasing Godshill's modest 84 all out, the former Brockenhurst captain guided Lymington to a three wicket victory with 3 overs to spare. But it was the phenomenal fielding skills of Chris Nutt which had set the ball rolling for Lymington earlier in the match. He firstly ran out Godshill's captain Alan Cousins with a brilliant direct throw and then, as if to prove it wasn't a fluke, the hyperactive Zimbabwean repeated the act an over later! However, Godshill did manage a degree of revenge later in the match when Nutty was himself run out attempting a suicidal single off the very first ball he faced!

Meanwhile another Lymingtonian would rather forget his first bowling stint of the winter. Mike West may have fancied his chances of a few wickets when he turned out for his old club Bramshaw for their Division Two match against Ordnance Survey. Sadly the Southern League opening bowler found himself up against the prolific Jon Bance and was carted for 65 runs off his 3 overs. Well bowled Westy!

Lymo snap up Simon
Lymington have made their first acquisition of the winter by signing up Brockenhurst captain Simon Naylor. The 28 year old right handed batsman who also bowls medium pace is the older brother of current Lymington wicketkeeper Will Naylor. Simon is actually returning to Lymington, having previously played for the club's colts with the likes of Paul Coles and Paul Allen. He has played for Brockenhurst in the Hampshire regional leagues for many years but has decided to test himself at a higher level next season. Ironically, Simon's final league wicket for Brockenhurst was that of Meg Gannaway when Brock defeated Lymo Fourths at the end of last season.

This web site is going to undergo a revamp this Autumn. The main objective being to make it a little easier to maintain and to significantly increase the space on each page available for actual content. There will be some new pages like a links page for instance.

All suggestions for what you'd like to see are welcome, please email me your idea's, the sooner the better really.

I'm planning to detail the results of the Indoor leagues and any other news as and when it arises.

The outdoor season has finally ended with a loss against Paultons in a 35 over a side game played in really quite pleasant conditions. Paultons put on 178 for the loss of 6 wickets, probably a few more than they should have got. Lymo fell some 40 odd runs short all out on the last ball having never really got to grips with the required scoring rate against some unthreatening but mainly accurate bowling.

Surprising all the fixtures in September were played, somewhat better than occurred at various points in the Summer!

Robin dreaming about his last stumping...Robin Goffy: 65 not out and no sign of declaring!
Lymington's longest serving player Robin Goff celebrated his 65th birthday on the 19th September.

The spritely wicketkeeper marked the arrival of his free bus pass by snapping up a sharp stumping off the bowling of fellow old-timer Chris James during the friendly match at Sparsholt. Incredibly, Robin has been a member of Lymington Cricket Club since the 1950s and has served on the committee for many years. And Robin's endless hours on the heavy roller have unquestionably been one of the major factors in the vast improvement in the quality of the Sports Ground pitches in recent times.

Out gunned!
Lymo pitched up with a makeshift side on Saturday against what turned out to be New Milton 1st team with a few second teamers.... The New Milton batters tore into the bowling knocking up 290 runs in 40 overs, Geoff Renshaw being treated particularly harshly after a couple of tidy overs. As Lymo were short a player New Milton lent us Matt, one of the colts who was not much higher than the stumps! Trevor asked him to bowl and after 4 overs he had the best figures with 1 for 15. Sadly Lymo's batting never really got going as a regular procession of batsmen returned to the club house with no one getting past 30 runs. Tapp's injured himself in the process pulling a calf muscle and requested a runner who was never called upon to run as he was out next ball!
