Match Report - First XI - 11th June 05
Hungerford v Lymington
Southern Electric Premier Cricket League Division 2

Lymington 262 all out - Hungerford 264 for 7

Lymington bowlers unable to contain opposition
The long trip to Hungerford in Berkshire ended in a tense last over finish but ultimately disappointing for Lymington. The Lymington batsmen posted a very good score the bowlers were unable to secure a victory against the bottom club not helped by at least 5 dropped catches.

Mark Burrett (11) and Martin Hunt (13) got the innings off the mark and hero of last week Christian Pain (13) promoted to 3 also departed cheaply. Bryn Darbyshire (79) joined Aussie Peter Smith (60) and from 57 for 3 they took the score to 143 in the 28th over before the latter was out to a simple caught and bowled. Skipper Adie Hunt (6) was lbw with the score on 163 but Matt Molloy (26) came in and batting well took the score to 224 in the 42nd over when Darbyshire was caught. In the last 8 overs a further 38 runs were scored for the loss of the remaining 4 wickets Trevor Phillips (9), Sam Westcott (12) including one big 6, Ed Molloy (0) and Lloyd Scott 1 not out. The score finishing on a respectable 262, the highest posted by the 1st team this year.

Lloyd Scott (9 overs 0 for 33) growing in maturity each match bowled tightly without any luck and Peter Smith (12 overs 1 for 72) bowling fast also without luck the Hungerford openers took the score to 86 before they were parted. Trevor Phillips (12 overs 3 for 54) made the initial breakthrough and also captured the other opener. Sam Westcott (6 overs 2 for 30) bowling off spin with better control removed 2 batsmen but former Welsh player Owen Dawkins (64) and South African Wessel Hartsoief (44) brought Hungerford back into the match and at 214 for 4 they were in control. Trevor Phillips returning for his second spell had Dawkins caught behind. With the dismissal of the South African Lymington were back in control but the final overs bowled by Smith, Christian Pain (8 overs 0 for 42) and Mark Burrett (3 overs 1 for 18) were not accurate enough to stop the Hungerford tail reaching the target with 3 balls to spare.

Best of Day Bryn Darbyshire 79
Peter Smith 60
