Match Report - First XI - 2nd July 05
Lymington v St Cross
Southern Electric Premier Cricket League Division 2

Lymington 66 all out - St Cross 68 for 8 (50 over match )
Lymington lost by 2 wickets

So near yet so far....
In one of the most amazing matches seen at the Sports Ground, Lymington CC lost by 2 wickets in a match that was all over in 43.3 overs with Lymington scoring 66 all out in 21.2 overs and St Cross 68 for 8 in 22 overs. St Cross won the toss and invited Lymington to bat. With the wicket looking a bit green in places and with a heavy mist hanging in the air batting was not going to be easy. Lymington were soon in trouble and after 4 overs were 8 runs for 5 wickets a league and club record low score beckoning and five ducks in a row but opener Bryn Darbyshire (41) and skipper Adie Hunt (2) took the score to 45 before the latter was dismissed shortly followed by the former who had scored 41 runs out of 47. The innings finally closed at 66 all out with Trevor Phillips (7 not out).

Lymington fired up by this batting disaster came out with all guns blazing and opening bowlers Peter Smith (12 overs 5 for 41) and Trevor Phillips (10 overs 2 for 25) soon had St Cross in trouble at 15 runs for 5 wickets in the 9th over and an unlikely win was in prospect. With the 6th wicket falling at 26 the prospects were even more realistic but overseas player Raj Naik (35) held the innings together and although 2 wickets fell at 62 Lymington failed to take anymore and lost by 2 wickets.

A wonderful fight back by Lymington who actually move up one place in the League above Calmore Sports, Sparsholt and OT's & Romsey who all lost.
