Given their record to date, an air of inevitability descended on the
Lymington dressing room upon being asked to bat. At 13 for 2 (C Rees 2-64)
in the fifth over, everything seemed to be following the script. Some
resistance followed from Malcolm Douglas (16) before the middle order
disappeared in a flash to M Mortimer (3-28). But then the bowlers seemed to
misplace their lines and an eighth wicket stand of 75 in 11 overs got
Lymington back centre stage, before Luigi Di Maria (26) missed his cue, but
not before equally the top score by a non-opener this season! Finally the
Lymington bowlers had something to bowl at, helped by Mark Gannaway (109no).
It did not take line for the bowlers to rise to their task, with Ronnie
Hawker (4-48) having the success, whilst Luigi Di Maria (17 runs of 12
overs) ensured the asking rate was slowly rising. The Burley batsmen knew
they had to start hitting out, and hitting out is what they did, and to
great effect with M Mortimer (63no) and M Green (44no) guiding the home side
to what turned out to be a comfortable victory.
