The Elite and a mixed Lymington and Milford team gathered to once again remember the man who was founder, vice-president and president of the three clubs respectively. The Elite struggled to find an early breakthrough as Adi Hunt (35) and Chris Todd (53) remained firm. Fortunately for the Elite, just as at appeared that these two were about to move in to overdrive, they were both dismissed. These successes were further pounced upon by Trevor Phillips
(3-40) whose bowling threatened to move the Elite into the ascendancy, supported by Geoff Renshaw (2-42). However, Jerry Holt (53) and Martin Hunt
(21) were not about to allow such nonsense as they both plundered late runs to move Lymington to an imposing 222.
The response was a steady if unspectacular start. Tom Thorp (38) again batted well, but at 79 for 3 a substantial partnership was required. Trevor Philips (48) and Dom Di Maria (25) did their best to oblige before the former was removed by Will Thorp (3-26), though it is doubtful that this wicket will be the one that sticks in the bowler's mind – that honour will probably go to bowling his father with a slower ball as he charged down the wicket. With the game slipping away from the Elite, the last rites were performed by James Lowe (2-30).
