With only 7 players and with 1 to turn up an hour late Lymington Under 15's were going to struggle in this cup match. 2 players had preferred to watch an insignificant 20/20 match at the Rose Bowl.
Will Thorp (6 ) and Stuart Beveridge (43 retired) opened the batting and the loss of the former at 33 to a full toss brought in Under 13 player Charlie Kinsella (0). They put on 28 before Charlie was out and then James Winderam (17not out). Stuart retired and Tim Noble (3) who had arrived late from a work experience job came in but was run out. In the final over James Winderam hit 3 consecutive boundaries to take the final score to 91 for 4.
Now up to 8 players there were still going to be plenty of gaps in the field and the Hyde batsmen made the most of it, however Will Thorp (4 overs 3 for 16) and James Winderam ( 4 overs 1 for 23) picked up wickets. The introduction of leg break bowler Dan Waters ( 2 overs 3 for 11) and off break bowler Tim Noble (4 overs 0 for 20) kept the runs down and picked up more wickets. With the final over to be bowled by Will Thorp, Hyde required 4 runs to win, the odd firmly in their favour. Will bowled a brilliant last over, clean bowling 2 batsmen restricting Hyde to 1 run, phew.
Lymington now proceed to the next round of the cup after a very close shave indeed. What Hyde must be feeling after failing to beat 8 players is anybodies guess.
