Match Report - First XI - 24 Jun 06
Southern Electric Premier Cricket League Division 2

Ventnor CC  184 for 9 - Lymington CC  188 for 7
Lymington won by 3 wickets

Ventnor bowled over by Lymo

The Sports Ground at Lymington looked a perfect cricket setting in the sunshine and with the football railings down the spectators had a wonderful view of the days action. After 2 losses on the trot Lymo were very keen to get back to winning ways against last years title winners.

The wicket looked a belter, Ventnor won the toss and as expected elected to bat.

Take that
Lloyd Scott took his tally of wickets to 17 for the season

Bowling with accuracy Lloyd Scott (11 overs 4 for 46) now up to 17 league wickets for the season and Trevor Phillips (12 overs 3 maidens 0 for 34) kept the batsmen tied down with Lloyd picking up the first wicket in the 3rd over caught behind by Mark Newton (Kiwi). Christian Pain (12 overs 2 for 59) came on as first change in the 12th over and picked up the 2nd wicket in his 2nd over again caught behind by Kiwi. It would have been 3 wickets for Painy, however, one was off a no ball! Mark Burrett  (3 overs 0 for 8) damaged his hand in trying to make a catch and only bowled 3 overs. Keith Dabengwa (12 overs 1 for 35) against bowled economically without much luck in the wickets column, the wicket fell to a Kiwi stumping. Lloyd returned for his second spell in the 32nd over and promptly bowled 2 batsmen after getting some useful reverse swing. With the score just 105 Ventnor were in a heap of trouble, the bulk of their batting back in the clubhouse. There then followed an excellent run out by Simon King with one stump to aim at. The steady fall of wickets prevented Ventnor from accelerating and they finished on just 184 for 9 after 50 overs, surly well under par.

one that got away
The wicket that never was!

Last weeks loss to Andover involved a huge number of extras, this week the same bowlers were miserly, just 9 extras were added to the total and what a difference to Ventnor's total it made. Kiwi is now miles in front as the top Wicket keeper in the league, when the next player stats are next published it should reveal just how far.

Edged
Mark Burrett edges one to the keeper

Dan
Dan Wiggins before his controversial stumping

Having kept Ventnor under 200 Lymington were rightly optimistic of achieving victory on such an excellent strip, Adie Hunt (28) and Mark Burrett (2) opened the batting but the latter was caught edging one outside off stump in the 6th over. Neil Trestrail (1) was then bowled off a good ball and Dan Wiggins (5) having just been given not out to an LBW appeal he was debatably stumped while gardening! This left Lymington were in some trouble at 41 for 3. Skipper Adie held the innings together until he was out in the 21st over off a big high edge to 3rd man. Keith Dabengwa (36) batted sensibly with Christian Pain until an attempted huge 6 went miles in the air and was caught. Christian Pain batted magnificently for a chanceless 59 not out holding the innings together to steer the team home. He was kept company by Martin Hunt who hit a huge straight 6 (7 run out), Simon King (14 bowled) and fast scoring Kiwi (18 not out) who biffed the winning 4 off the first ball of the last over. In spite of loosing wickets at bad times Lymo kept their heads and the run rate on target for a well judged successful run chase.
