Lymington were looking to end their 3 match losing run in a away match against Havant 2nds. Batting first with Adie Hunt (55) and Martin Hunt (13) starting steadily before the latter was bowled in the 10th over with the score on 31. The inform Dan Wiggins (101 not out) then joined Adie to take the score to 126 before the latter having reached his maiden league half-century was out in the 32nd over for a fine 55. Last year's run machine Bryn Darbyshire (0) was judged lbw second ball and Zimbabwean Keith Dabengwa (17) struck some nice boundaries before he was caught. Christian Pain (20) kept the score ticking over and a cameo innings from Trevor Phillips (13 not out) helped Dan to get his well deserved maiden league century off 112 balls and Lymington to actually bat for 50 overs and post a challenging 236 for 5 after 50 overs. The target score was reduced after a rain stoppage to 228 off 46 overs.
Opening bowlers Trevor Phillips (7 overs 0 for 30) and Southern Premier League Division 2 top wicket taker Lloyd Scott (12 overs 2 for 50) kept the Havant opening batsmen at bay but Christian Pain (9 overs 1 for 48), Adam Darbyshire (5 overs 0 for 28) and Keith Dabengwa (10 overs 0 for 68) were unable to get a breakthrough that was needed. The first wicket fell at 141 in the 32nd over when Lloyd returned for his second spell and he had another wicket brilliantly catching Havant centurion Gareth Ransley (121) with a one handed stop above his head on what looked certain to be a one bounce 4.
With limited penetration in their attack Lymington could not slow Havant's scoring and lost by 7 wickets with 3 overs remaining.
With this 4th loss on the trot Lymington desperately need to get a win against OT's and Romsey CC next week at the Sports Ground.
Best of Week:
Dan Wiggins 101 not out
