Match Report - First XI - 19 Aug 06
Southern Electric Premier Cricket League Division 2

Andover 210 for 8 - Lymington 175 all out

Lymington lost by 35 runs

Andover won the toss and elected to bat on a wicket looking full of runs. The new opening attack of Christian Pain (12 overs 5 maidens 4 for 29) and Mark Burrett (6.2 overs 0 for 31) kept the Andover batsmen quiet with the former picking up 2 early wickets and by the 19th over they were 67 for 3. Trevor Phillips (12 overs 2 for 45) picked up the prize wicket of Mark Miller (35) and backed up by Dan Wiggins (8.4 overs 1 for 28) and Keith Dabengwa (12 overs 1 for 65) the run rate was kept down but a late flourish by Richard Taylor (27 not out) who hit 17 off the last over bowled by Keith Dabengwa. Andover finished on 210 for 8 off their 50 overs.

In reply Mark Jackson (4) and Keith Dabengwa (5) departed cheaply quickly followed by recent run machine Dan Wiggins (1), Neil Trestrail (23), Bryn Darbyshire (19) and Christian Pain (2) and at 73 for 6 Lymington’s hopes of winning looked very slim.
However captain Adie Hunt (53) and Mark Burrett (38) repaired the early damage and put on 83 before both were out within a few balls of each other. Martin Hunt (5), Mark Newton (5) and Trevor Phillips (6 not out) tried to accelerate but they were out with 10 balls remaining having achieved an extra bonus point in reaching 175 35 runs short of the target.

With 2 matches remaining both away Ventnor and Trojans the situation is OT’s and Romsey 7.29 points per match, Hungerford 10.0, Purbrook 10.82 and Lymington 11.08 with 2 teams relegated.

4 wickets for Christian
