Lymington U11a 317 Sway U11 189
U9 Ambrose Hat-trick icing on the cake as Lymington swamp Sway by 128 runs
Winning the toss skipper Moors elected to field, and after 4 overs J Fussell (11) and B Lewis had scored a solid 212 in the face of D Cureton (2-0-7-0) and J Cartwright (2-1-5-0). What happened next was nothing short of sensational. First a run out when with a direct hit in the 5th over, then Ambrose struck taking his first wicket in the 6th over. Not to be out done J Roberts proceeded to take two wickets in the 7th over. This just seemed to inspire Ambrose who then took a Hat-trick, all bowled to leave Sway on 184 after their second 4 overs, having lost 7 wickets in this period of play. Tight bowling saw Sway lose another wicket as A Drodge (2-1-4-0) and A Maher controlled the next 4 overs, Sway finished on 185 having progressed by one run. Gus Woolley seemed to be intent on getting Sway back in the positive smashing 2 boundaries, but first Maher, then Ambrose struck, leaving Sway on 189 after their 16 overs.
The Lymington bowling was very accurate, and with tidy glove work by Quigley behind the stumps J Roberts (2-0-5-2), and A Maher (3-2-2-3) returning superb figures, but F Ambrose (3-2-4-5) recorded the best figures to date in Lymington U11 cricket, something made even more impressive when you consider he is an under 9.
The Lymington reply saw A Drodge(15) and K Moors(11), then J Cartwright(9) and J Quigley(11) followed by F Ambrose(11) and A Maher(8) and finally J Roberts(11) and D Cureton(14) play the bowling around sensibly, with quick singles and free flowing shots to all parts to close their innings on 317. This is the highest score by Lymington this season, and means they are peaking at just the right time. All the partnerships work for each other making it very difficult to pressure any one player.
For Sway J Fussell (3-0-17-1) and L Gurton (3-0-26-1) were the wicket takers.
Best of the week F Ambrose 3 overs 2 maidens 4 runs 5 wickets including a Hat-trick.
