Lymington 141 all out v Ashstead (Surrey) 188 for 5
(35 over match)
Lymington Under 13’s experience 35 overs
A nice sunny afternoon greeted the visiting Ashstead CC from Surrey and the Sports Ground again looked a picture in the sunshine. Lymington were missing almost all of their Championship winning side due to holidays and included a number of Under 11 players and Under 9 Chris Haining.
Lymington captain Nicky Elliot lost the toss and the visitors elected to bat on a perfect batting wicket. Max Williams (4 overs 0 for 19) and David Cureton (4 overs 1 for 14) opened the bowling picking up an early wicket. Adam Drodge ( 2 overs 0 for 7), Chris Haining (2 overs 0 for 16), Joe Cartwright (4 overs 0 for 17, Dan Cooper (3 overs 0 for 16), Kieran Moors (2 overs 0 for 19), Adam Welch (2 overs 0 for 7), Tim Breach (2 overs 0 for 13), Ollie Wiltshire (1 for 14) and Sam Moss (1 over 0 for 9) all bowled well but were unable to stem the flow of runs. Only Nicky Elliot (7 overs 3 for 37) made any inroads into the batting and Ashstead finished on 188 for 5 in their 35 overs.
In reply Lymington started badly losing Adam Drodge (2) but Ollie Wiltshire (31) kept the score ticking along. Max Williams (0), Nicky Elliot (5), David Cureton (3), Joe Cartwright (7), Dan Cooper (2) and Chris Haining (2) all departed cheaply but Kieran Moors (11) and Adam Welch (17 not out) increased the scoring rate. Last man Sam Moss (5) with Adam batted for 6 overs to hold up the finale with the Lymington youngsters losing by 47 runs.
The highlights were seeing the last 2 players in a last wicket stand and the captainship of Nicky Elliot and the general play of the younger players against a strong Ashstead team. Ashstead from Surrey are a top level club who amongst their achievements entertain the famous International Lashings CC as a fund raising day.
