Lymington Cricket Club can at last officially unveil their new overseas player for the 2006 season – Keith Mbusi Dabengwa.
The Zimbabwean Test all-rounder finally obtained a visa last week and arrived in the UK on Monday direct from the Caribbean where his country had just completed a tri-nations tournament with Bermuda and Canada. Keith – or Dabs – as he is more popularly known - played in the final of that tournament scoring 21 not out as Zimbabwe beat Bermuda by 83 runs. It was a happy ending to a difficult tour for Zim who had suffered a 5-0 mauling against the West Indies in a ODI series.
The left handed batsman and slow left arm bowler has made three Tests appearances for his country, with a highest score of 35 against India last year at Bulawayo. In the same match he recorded his best Test bowling figures to date taking 3-127 including the wickets of Yuvraj, Pathan and Kumble.
Keith is a Level 2 coach who has coached at the Zimbabwe Cricket Academy, and it is hoped that he will be a big influence among Lymington’s talented colts section.
He is likely to make his Lymington debut at Paultons on Thursday evening (weather permitting!) in the first round of the SEC Cup.
