Match Report - Second XI -  16 June 07
Hampshire Cricket League - County 1

Portchester 184 for 8 - Lymington  186 for 5

After a delayed start reducing the game to 43 overs a side, Portchester won the toss & surprisingly elected to bat first on a damp wicket, with more rain expected at anytime !

A good opening spell of bowling from Martin Gregory (8 overs 1 for 27) & Adam Darbyshire (11 overs 3 for 50) had Portchester at 35 for 3 after 12 overs. The runs continued to be kept in check with Dan Bennett (9 overs 1 for 25), Ed Freeman (10 overs 3 for 49) & Peter Tapper (5 overs 0 for 18). However wickets were kept in hand & 70 runs were conceded in the final 10 overs. This left Lymington requiring 185 to win.

Mark Jackson (46) had another opening partner this week Dave Griffiths (53) & between them they gave the run chase a solid start. The score was 73 when Griffiths was out, but then Neil Trestrail (26) & Peter Tapper (21) increased the run rate, leaving Simon Naylor to hit consecutive 4's in the final over to win the game with 2 balls to spare.

Lymington were very pleased to win this close game, having already lost 2 games by a single wicket on the penultimate ball earlier in the season.
