Upon winning the toss, a weakened Trojans side asked Lymington to bat first – a decision they may have soon been regretting as the home side made a flying start, taking 12 off the second over alone. Things continued in this manner until Mark Gannaway (53) missed a straight one. This only succeeded in bringing a series of batsmen to the crease who were intent to carry on the carnage. In addition to a well crafted innings from Tom Thorp (63), there were also contributions from Steve Coltman (22), Jerry Holt (30) and Dom Di Maria (35). All of this left the Trojans' bowlers with some sorry looking figures, and their batsmen a lot of work to do.
Perhaps surprisingly, the batsmen decided that they didn't like the job description of a run chase, and settled instead for quite crease occupation. Having taken up squatters' rights, the Lymington bowling struggled to evict them, with only Luigi Di Maria (2-32) having much success. In consequence, the game drifted to its conclusion, by which time C Babidge had accumulated 81no.
