On a fine woodside wicket the New Milton openers of A Mills (9) and J Thompson (3) provide a solid base, one which B Tomkins (2) and G Watts (20) used to realise a score of 241 at the half way point. W Crossley (11) and D Keffan (4) kept the momentum going, leaving O Nicholls (8) and B New (7) to see New Milton post a score of 276.
The Lymington bowlers stuck to their task well, F Kinsella (2-0-5-0) kept the runs down, whilst H Chandler (3-0-17-1), B Howard- Allen (2-0-15-1) and J Doggett (2-0-16-1) all took wickets, but pick of the bowlers was O Marshall (3-0-10-1) who had the batsmen in all sorts of trouble.
In reply the Lymington batmen set about their task well. B Howard-Allen (5) and F Kinsella (2) followed by M McGrigor (2) and H Chandler (6) tried hard in the face accurate bowling to push the score along. J Elliott (8) and J Doggett followed by O Marshall (9) and G Miller (2) were all unable to find the lose balls that Lymington needed to chase down this target and finished 20 runs short.
The New Milton bowlers were very economical, keeping the Lymington batsmen tied down with accurate bowling., and whilst no one took a wicket the entire attack should be mentioned for the way they bowled giving nothing away.
A strong performance by a good New Milton outfit, and a learning curve for Lymington.
