New Milton made their first valiant attempt at U9 cricket. Refusing the incrediball option, they opted to bat first against the hard ball and knowing the Lymington side contained 'seasoned' under 9's.
N Gore and R Hussey (4) opened the batting in the face of accurate bowling, getting New Milton of to a good start. T Rowsell and C Ogbourne (2) pushed the total up to 224 after their 4 overs, however T Nurse, M Davis and J Jowett all struggled against tight bowling with only young man of the team W Jowett (3) looking very comfortable. The total of 219 is not so much a reflection on the New Milton batting, more the Lymington bowling which never gave the batsmen time to settle in.
J Morgan (2-0-6-0) B Sykes (3-0-13-0), E Collison (3-1-3-0) and V Falso (1-0-10-0) all bowled well. Taking a wicket a piece, S Paxton (3-0-10-1), F Ambrose (2-1-9-1) and A Drodge (2-1-2-1) all bowled.
In reply Lymington started well with E Collison (1) and J Morgan (7) progressing Lymington steadily. S Paxton (9) and V Falso continued to build the total. Third pairing of K Evans (5) and B Sykes (5) set the base for the final push of F Ambrose (13) and A Drodge (1) to see the Lymington total up to 285.
New Milton stuck to their task well, with C Ogbourne (2-1-0-2) and T Rowsell (3-1-6-1) the pick of the bowlers.
New Milton has some good players who will develop as they get used to the U9 format.
