Match Report - First XI - 19 July 08
Southern Electric Premier Cricket League Division 2
Lymo 201 for 7 Hook 202 for 6
After defeating champions Ventnor the previous week Lymington travelled to Hook full of confidence. After winning the toss Lymington batted first on a flat wicket with high hopes of posting a big score. Openers Martin Hunt and Dave Griffiths scored steadily before Griffiths was out LBW, Dai-Morgan Rushbrook joined Hunt and these 2 took to score along nicely to 54 for 1 from 15 overs. The Hook bowlers then began to bowl with good discipline and restricted the Lymington batsmen to only 35 runs from the next 20 overs during which time Hunt was out for 29. With 10 overs left Lymington were struggling to score at 3 an over and it was only a late hitting spree by Ollie Kelly 34 and Tommy Barton 28no in the last 6 overs which took the score up to 201 for 7.
Defending a slightly below par score it was vital that Lymington took early wickets and once again Craig O'Shannessy responded to the challenge bowling both Lovelock and Hobday before Hook had reached 30. Opener Thane took the attack to Lymington and in partnership with Briggs eased Hook into a commanding position before the introduction of leg spinner Kelly (3-41) reduced Hook to 98 for 5. With Lymington now on top Hook took some time to consolidate their score and keep wickets in hand. As chances went begging in the field the game slipped away from Lymington as Hook cantered home to win by 4 wickets with 6 overs remaining.
A disappointing performance from Lymington leaves them in 4th place needing to bounce back against Havant next week.
