Lymington entertained Liphook & Ripsley in their final home game of the season knowing that victory would guarantee a top 3 finish in the league. Liphook batted first after winning the toss and soon found themselves struggling to score on a pitch that was under water on Thursday morning. Opening bowlers Craig O'Shannessy and Dai-Morgan Rushbrook kept the run rate under 3 an over and Rushbrook was duly rewarded for his miserly spell with 2-18 from his 10 overs. Christian Pain replaced O'Shannessy and had an immediate impact taking 2 wickets in his 6 over spell to leave Liphook struggling at 45 for 4 after 20 overs. Tommy Barton removed the dangerous Cledwyn for 23 with his first ball and Ed Freeman also chipped in with a wicket as Lymington's bowlers turned the screw on the batsmen. O'Shannessy returned to collect 2 wickets, to take his personal tally up to 36 for the season and Pain 3-24 took the last wicket as Liphook were all out for 129 in the 44th over.
In order to take maximum points from the game Lymington needed to lose no more than 2 wickets chasing their target. Openers Bryn Darbyshire and Dai-Morgan Rushbrook went about the job confidently before Darbyshire was bowled for 16, Rushbrook was joined by Rob Lammiman and these 2 eased Lymington into a winnning position before Lammiman was bowled for a fine 45. During this time Rushbrook moved calmly past another 50 displaying his full range of shots and guided Lymington past their total with a commanding 64no and 8 wickets in hand.
A special mention must be made about the quality of the pitch at the Sports Ground this year, which has been better than ever before and is a credit to the town council.
