Memories of yesteryear were played out at Little Bashley in the match between Hampshire Over 50’s and Dorset in the qualifying round of the National Over 50's County Championship. Batting first in a rain reduced match of 35 overs per side Hampshire piled up 320 for 3 thanks to some astonishing batting from Lymington's Peter Tapper and former Lymingtonian Tony Oxley. They put on 174 for the second wicket of which Taps scored 121 off a mere 55 balls (11 x6, 11x4, 1x2, 9x1). Taps first fifty took 32 balls and his second fifty in only 11 balls. In one spell of 7 overs 124 runs were scored with Taps merrly slogging 106 off 30 balls including 7 consecutive 6's (part of 66 runs off 13 balls). Tony's contribution was 12 plus 6 extras. Tony completed a superb century as Hampshire piled on the agony.
Dorset's reply was spirited but fell well short on 184-7. Taps blamed his slogging on his new Funky bat specially selected by Jamie Harvey of Cricket-Hockey.
