Josh Thacker

Lymington under 15 and men's 3rd team player Josh Thacker has been selected to train with the Great Britain volleyball squad in October. Although only 5' 4", Josh who is nearly 12" shorter than most opponents was spotted by a Greek international coach and an English Volleyball Men's national league coach. Josh plays as a Libero, which is the only position he can realistically play for his height.

He made his debut in the Men’s National League on 21/09/08 and was voted Most Valuable Player vs Milton Keynes. He is one of the youngest individuals ever to achieve this feat in the history of the Men’s English Volleyball Association history.

Roll on 2012 – you never know you may see Josh in the Olympics.

Lymington under 11 (4 under 11, 2 under 9) braved the wet and windy conditions on Sunday to win the competition.
Lymington played Bashley first and only just won and batsman J Holland hit a lovely shot which was going for 4 only to be stopped by the power line running over the pitch. Lymington lost their last group match to Hambledon but were already through with 3 out of 3 wins.
The semi finals saw Lymington play Hyde. Tight bowling from under 9 F Ambrose saw the two opening batsman walk in the first over. Excellent fielding and strong batting Lymington were through to the final.
The final in heavy rain was between Lymington and Bournemouth which mainly consisted of county players. Lymington batted first and lost both openers in the first over with only one run, it looked like we were going to be runners up for the second year in a row until W Entwisle (28no) and J Holland (20 no) made an excellent stand and smashed the ball all over the park and ended our five overs on 56.
Bournemouth came into bat full of confidence until the second ball when F Ambrose took middle stump. Under 9 A Drodge bowled second over and also took a wicket and with very tight fielding and great team work lymington youngsters now had the confidence. C Moors then took another wicket with a fine catch by A Drodge. W Entwisle took a wicket and J Holland covered the outfield superbly ( although his trousers ended up black). Bournemouth ended on 31.
Player of the competition just went to W Entwisle although J Quigley was very strong with the bat and hit a fantastic 6.

Thanks goes to Bashley for another well run competition and to the umpires for perservering the wind and rain.

Lymington Colts Magnificent Seven
Lymington B's final New Forest Under 11 colts league game of the season produced not only a handsome 127 run victory, but also the quite remarkable, and perhaps even unique, spectacle of seven wickets falling in consecutive balls during the Hythe & Dibden innings. The unusual feat was initiated by Lymington's Hugo Chandler who took four wickets, all clean bowled with the final four balls of the 11th over of the innings. Incredibly, James Doggett then took a hat trick with the next three balls of the following over. All this left the stunned coach with the tough task of trying to decide which of the two hat-trick heroes should keep the match ball! Hacksaw, anyone?

7 in a row!

Junior indoor league knockout finals

Lynx Junior Indoor League Under 13 Knockout Cup Final

Lymington Under 13b 64-2 Lymington U13a 67-4

Having disposed of all the other clubs Lymington had a no lose position for the final. Batting first the 'B's weathered the early storm despite losing J Cartwright and H Chandler quickly. J Mcquoid (25 rtd) and L Ambrose (20 rtd) recovered the score to a passable total in the face of accurate bowling from F Ambrose (2-0-10-0) and C Moors (2-0-13-1) but pick of the bowlers was S Wimslow (2-0-5-1) who strangled the 'B's.

The 'A's didn't have things all there own way losing their first wicket with only 3 runs on the board. K Moors (14) departed after a flurry of shots, paving the way for Man of the Match S Wimslow (21 not out) to put the 'A's over the line with W Entwistle (6) proving a very solid partner. In the bowling department L Ambrose (2.5-0-12-0), J McQuoid (1-0-15-0) G Edwards (2-0-18-1) and H Chandler (1-0-9-0) all applied pressure, but J Cartwright (2-0-9-2) very nearly turned the form book on its head with brilliant spin bowling.

Lymington can only be pleased with the strength and depth of their U13s, and look forward to the outdoor season.

Lymo Colts

The Lymington Team: Finn Ambrose, Felix Ambrose, Louis Ambrose, J Cartwright, H Chandler, G Edwards, W Entwistle, J Holland, B Howard-Allen, J McQuoid, C Moors, K Moors, S Wimslow, L Moors (manager). Absent H Illsey and E Collison.

Lynx Junior Indoor League Under 11 Knockout Cup Final.

Lymington Under 11b 34-5 New Milton U11a 36-1

Having won the toss New Milton asked Lymington to bat first, and quickly had the top order back on the benchs. Only H Chandler (7) and E Collison (9) were able to show any capacity to score against an accurate New Milton bowling attack. A Mills (2-0-11-0) and O Nicholls (2-1-3-0) bowled tidy overs, then G Watts (2-1-3-1) and J Thompson (2-0-7-1) took vital wickets. Pick of the bowlers was B Tomkins (2-0-10-2) who ripped the heart out of Lymington.
In reply O Nicholls (9) blazed away, before W Crossley (6) and B Tomkins (9) finished the match in less than half the allotted overs to take the Cup.

New Milton were worthy winners, culminating an indoor season that saw a very settled squad improve beyond measure to be Knockout Cup winners.

New Milton U11a: S Watts (manager) W Crossley, A Mills, O Nicholls, B Tomkins, J Thompson, and G Watts.

Colts graduate to New Forest District side and Train with Hampshire

This year has bought a splendid crop of talented colts who have been selected for the District side and 3 are training hard in the Hampshire County Winter Training program hoping to be selected to represent the County in the Summer.

This really is a tribute to not only the talent of colts that play for Lymington but also of the coaching that has bought so many up to this standard.
