On a windy and bitterly cold Thursday evening more suited to Rugby than Cricket, Lymington and Sway U13 teams opened their 2009 season at Lymington Woodside. Lymington won the toss and elected to bat first. The Sway bowlers struggled from the start against a strong Lymington batting line up, who kept the score running at around a run a ball from the first overs. Lymington finished their 18 overs with 122 runs for the loss of two wickets with opener Felix Ambrose top scoring on 30 runs retired. The middle order produced quality knocks of 21 for Joe Quigley, bowled by Andrew Straw and an unbeaten 23 and 22 from Jason Lewis and Louis Ambrose respectively, to wrap up the innings.
Sway lost early wickets in the face of accurate fast bowling from Lymington opening bowlers Louis Ambrose and Chris Haining, who clean bowled the top three order in his first two overs. Lewis Marden then anchored the middle order for Sway finishing unbeaten on 20 not out with some resolute batting but Sway were always behind the run rate as wickets continued to fall. Dom Woodfine showed some impressive strokeplay contributing to a sixth wicket partnership of 29 runs before finally being run out for 12. Lymington shared bowling duties around nine members of the team to keep the players warm as temperatures dropped and light faded, finishing with two overs of slow spin bowling. Pick of the bowlers however was Chris Haining who finished his four overs with three wickets for 10 runs.
