Lymington’s second game of the season was at home to local rivals Pylewell.
For Lymington A. Drodge and F. Ambrose opened the batting in aggressive style with a run rate of over 7 an over in the first 10 overs. Drodge retired in the eighth over after a quick fire 30 runs off just 24 balls but following his departure the run rate fell as wickets tumbled. F. Ambrose was the first wicket to fall in the 12th over for 23 runs and Lymington were on just 97 runs after the end of the penultimate over. However a late cameo performance by L. Ambrose and H. Illsley, combined with some wayward bowling, produced 17 runs off the last over which left Lymington with a respectable total of 114 for 5. Pick of the Pylewell bowlers was K. Aymes-Headley who took three wickets for 21 runs in his 4 overs, but total extras for Pylewell of 31 including 22 wides undid much of the hard work elsewhere.
Lymington opened the bowling with W. Entwisle and C. Haining who kept the Pylewell batsmen under pressure from the start and runs off the bat were hard to come by. After their opening spell Pylewell had managed just 2 runs an over although they were only one wicket down. The first change bowlers L. Ambrose and C. Moors then produced the breakthrough each taking two wickets in the eighth and ninth overs. After a run out of J. Kolliari in the same spell, Pylewell were left struggling on 15 for six. J. Kennedy arrived at the crease and offered stern resistance to the end as wickets continued to fall around him. Pylewell’s stolid resistance finished in the 16th over with just 34 runs on the board. W. Entwisle took the final wicket to finish with 2 wickets for 3 runs off 4 overs including two maiden overs. L. Ambrose also had 2 for 3 off 3 overs with a double wicket maiden and C. Moors finished with 4 wickets for 10 runs off 4 overs. Extras were just 11.
