Lymington welcomed Kent touring side Lamorbey Park to their Southampton Road ground on Tuesday afternoon for a mid week friendly. The home side with an assortment of youth and experience were invited to bat first and started well until Thacker (3) decided to try and launch the opening left arm bowler into the Solent, but missed it! This bought the experienced club chairman Tapper (42) to the crease who after a rather uncharismatic slow start eventually found the middle of the bat on a number of occasions. Ably supported by Hawker (15) and O’Sullivan (16) and latterly by Douglas (25) the runs amassed at a leisurely pace. Darbyshire senior (34) increased the tempo launching the ball into the car park hitting his brother’s car in the process and Robertson (17) contributed with further lusty blows. Ambrose (3) and James (2) chipped in to accumulate a competitive total of 181 from 39 overs.
In reply the tourist hadn't reckoned for an on fire O'Sullivan taking 4 early wickets and virtual blowing away any hope Lamorbey Park had of winning the game. Capably supported by James (14-0) the home side took control, Darbyshire (8-1), Thacker (12-0) and Bowring (11-0) continued to press home Lymington's advantage. A splendid spell of leg spin from Elliott (18-0) and seam bowling from Ambrose (12-2) who bowled in good areas and deservedly took a couple of wickets.
O’Sullivan and Tapper (8-1) were given the responsibility to bowl the final 4 overs with 3 wickets required for a merited win, with just 5 balls remaining Lymington were able to succeed where the Aussies failed earlier in the week bowling their opposition out for 103.
Man of the match O'Sullivan warrants special praise finishing with impressive figures of 6 wickets for just 9 runs in this deserved and enjoyable victory for Lymington.
