Sparsholt 288 for 7 Lymington 257

The curtain came tumbling down on our season after playing at the delightful setting of Sparsholt. The weather was glorious & Olly Kelly was given the dubious distinction of being our Captain as all other candidates had failed the winning test. Olly promptly lost the toss but Marc O’Sullivan managed to take a wicket first ball thanks to the alert Peter Tapper in the slip cauldron. That proved to be the turning point of the game as Sparsholt rattled up 288 off 40 overs. Chris James in his final game before retiring to the bar conceded only 48 off his spell & believe it or not he took a catch in the last over. All the other bowlers were tonked to all parts of the ground although Nicky Elliott with 2-38 bowled his spinners very well.

To chase down this huge total you need a good start. 25-3 was not ideal but Lee Moors with his own brand of batting thumped 37 to exactly the same part of the ground including his first ever 6. Peter Tapper however had other ideas and merrily blasted the bowling to several parts of the ground. Courtesy of our scorer Polly a wagon wheel was produced & it transpired that 70 out of his 90 runs came on the leg side-surprise surprise. 7 sixes & 7 fours were included and helped by Olly Kelly with 55 took the score to 186 before Taps holed out on the boundary. The momentum was lost & despite good efforts by Pixie & Mark the final score of 257 meant defeat. Chris James missed a straight delivery and was gently applauded all the way back to the bar.
