Match Report - First XI - 19 August 09
Final - Twenty20 Cup - Hampshire Rose Bowl

LYMINGTON ARE SOUTH COAST T20 CHAMPIONS

Lymington 176 - 5 Ventnor 159 - 7

Lymington conquered both the lights and Ventnor to add the Southern Electric Twenty20 Cup to the New Forest President's Challenge Trophy which they won last month. There was a crowd of several hundred at the Rose Bowl to see Christian Pain win the toss for Lymington and elect to bat first. Glyn Treagus (24) and Morgan Rushbrook (27) started in fine form and put on 38 in the first four and a half overs to get the mainland side off to a flying start. Rob Lammiman came in at three and scored an excellent 44 in 34 balls. Simon Cook (9) was caught in the deep by Pongolo and Tommy Barton, the next man in was run out for 35 in twenty balls which included three 6s and one 4. Captain Christian Pain was next man in and scored a quick 20 not out and put on 30 runs in the last 3 overs with James Lucy (3*) At the completion of their 20 overs Lymington had reached 176-5. For Ventnor Hilsum took 2-24 whilst Freeston, Pongolo and Compton took a wicket each.

By the time Ventnor began their innings dusk was setting in and the lights were coming into their own. Simon Cook opened the bowling for Lymington and did what he has been good at all season by removing young Hose's middle stump in the first over. Westhorpe (19) and Compton (11) showed some resistance, but James Lucy caught and bowled Blackman for a duck. Ian Hilsum (54) was batting well and was the only batsman in the match to record a half century, Christian Pain bowled dangerman Pongolo (18) and Eddie Freeman removed Freeston (6). Fletcher (24*) and Beven (4*) were there at the end but Ventnor had only totaled 159-7 which was 17 runs short of Lymington's score. The outstanding bowler for Lymington was Simon Cook (4-0-14-3) whilst Lucy, Treagus, Pain and Freeman took one wicket each.

Tommy Barton received the Man of the Match Award for his excellent innings of 35 in the latter stages of the Lymington innings when quick runs were of prime importance. Well done Tommy.
