Quigley inspires Under 13s to play-off glory!
Joe Quigley produced a fine all-round performance to help Lymington Under 13s to an 8 wicket victory over OTs & Romsey in the New Forest Colts play-off finals at Cranbourne. The promising wicketkeeper cast aside his gloves to take two wickets as OTs were restricted to 71-6, before retiring unbeaten on 30 as Lymo cruised home in just 13 overs. Report

Sadly, Lymington Under 11b team was defeated by Hyde in the Under 11 play-off, although just making it to the play-off final was an incredible achievement for a 'B' team.

Once again, it has been a tremendous season for the colts section with all the teams combined losing just a handful of matches all summer. Thanks are due to all the organisers, coaches and managers, without whom none of this success would be possible.

Lymington CC held the Primary Schools Kwik cricket Competition at the Sports Gound, Lymington in fine weather and attended by a few schools from the Lymington Area. In the final Pennington Junior A managed to overcome Lymington Junior A with Lymington Junior B and Pennington Junior B in runners-up.

The Kwik cricket (plastic bats and wickets and a soft ball) Festival was sponsored by Chance 2 Shine which is a schools initiative through the MCC and organised by Mandy Grierson and Tony Wharton. The coaches were Morgan Rushbrook (ECB Level 3) and Cameron Grierson (ECB Level 2). A number of local schools were invited to take part and the Chance 2 Shine backed scheme gets Cameron Grierson visiting a number of schools to teach the basics of cricket and interested boys or girls are invited to join Lymington CC for further coaching.

Lymington CC Under 11s Triumph at Lord's

Lymington under 11's were privileged to be invited to play at Lord's indoor cricket centre. The tournament was hosted by Primrose Hill CC and also included teams from Hitchin CC and Shrewsbury CC. Everyone played each other in a round robin league, before the two top teams played out the final. Lymington played the hosts first up, who proved to be too wily and experienced at the indoor version of the game. The home side going on to win quite comfortably to establish themselves as competition favourites. However, Lymington gained in confidence in their second and third games where they ran out worthy winners to set up a rematch with Primrose Hill in the final.

Under 11's at lords
Jamie Morgan, Ben Sykes, Finn Ambrose, George Grisley,
Asa Drodge, Cameron Robertson, Kalle Evans

Lymington batted first as in their first encounter, and managed to post a score of 52 for 1 in their alloted 12 overs, with Finn Ambrose and Jamie Morgan shining against a very strong bowling attack. So Lymington had to defend a total just one run more than in their Pool Match against a very experienced and powerful Primrose Hill batting line up. If Lymington were to win then they would have to bowl and field out of their skins. The two medium pacers, Asa Drodge and Ben Sykes bowled beautifully in the opening 4 overs applying the pressure from the outset with tight lines and a disciplined length. The responsibility for the middle overs fell to Cameron Robertson and Jamie Morgan. The Primrose Hill opening star batter was still in and looking dangerous. It was at this stage of their first encounter that his strong hitting took the game away from the Lymington youngsters. But not this time. Robertson and Morgan showed great composure holding their nerve with some skillful accurate bowling which continued to frustrate the batting side. The pressure mounted on Primrose Hill. They took a risky single to George Grisley who calmly whipped the ball to the outstanding wicketkeeper of the tournament Kalle Evans who took off the bails and their star batter was back in the hutch. The final overs saw the pacemen, Ambrose and Grisley take centre stage, charging in with relentless determination to finish off the tail, with Primrose still 10 runs short of their required total. It truly was an amazing turn around from their first meeting, with no room for error each and every member of the team played to the script, a remarkable team performance worthy of the Lord's Venue!! Not only did Lymington pick up the Tournament Cup, captain Finn Ambrose was awarded Player of the Tournament. He was simply outstanding with bat and ball throughout the competition, with his leadership of the Lymington team showing maturity beyond his years. So a magnificent, memorable day for all concerned and being tournament winners Lymington cc will have the opportunity to do it all over again next year, when they will have to return to Lords to defend their trophy.

Lymo colts make the Hampshire grade

Asa and Adam Drodge and Finn and Felix Ambrose have been selected into the Hampshire Winter Training Squads following successful cricket seasons last summer.

As well as this Felix is one of seven boys between 12 and 16 years to be selected into the Hampshire Emerging Players Programme run by Bobby Parks, the ex Hampshire and England wicket keeper. Felix attends group sessions fortnightly, at the Rose Bowl, as well as weekly 1:1 coaching. The idea of the scheme is to provide a platform for the boys hopeful progression onto Hampshire's full Academy.
